“During my childhood I owned the most wonderful horse that I ever could dream. She was an Anglo Arab mare, Ginger, that walked with me through my young adolescence into my mid-30s. I always believed that the horse you have during your childhood is the only horse that you will truly bond with. I would have never expected to own another horse that would even come close to the relationship I had with Ginger. However to my surprise, my path crossed with a young beautiful gelding, Flagship Bask. His owners could no longer afford his board and they planned to sell him. Reluctant to get another horse, I justified his purchase by retiring my old mare, Ginger. Immediately, Flagship Bask desired to connect with me as if he knew that I was his owner. In the stable where he was boarded, he would anticipate my arrival by hearing my car and then pushing his eye through the stall bars to see me approach him down the hall. His long forelock would extend through the bars as he struggled to make eye contact. Soon, I realized that Flagship Bask, nicknamed “Max”, would not be an ordinary horse. He had so much character and heartfelt love for people. It was almost as if he was a person and had the emotions of a young child. After one month, I moved him to our private farm where he soon became the center of attention. His personality was so kind that even my 70-year old Mother could ride him without incident. He won over everyone he met. Knowing that Max was special, I decided to research his lineage in which led me to Guardian Spirit Arabians in Granville, OH. I contacted the breeder, Alexia Maclae, DVM, to ask about Max and his bloodlines. Surprisingly, she planned another breeding with Max's father and mother. I knew immediately that I must buy the foal. Later that year on July 9, 2005, the only pinto HA NSH filly sired Spiced Ice and mothered by Tsachet was born. I quickly purchased this remarkable foal knowing that it would be similar to Max. I named the filly, Erma Flagstaff Bask, and she happily joined our farm. Currently, I breaking her to drive along side her brother and will be breaking her to saddle in late summer. Both of these horses are truly wonderful, they are calm, kindly, non-aggressive, smart, and they bond with their owner for life.” -- Dr. Veronica I. Ent (Saltsburg, PA)
